“Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead.” – Charles Bukowski

As much as I like fashion trends, sometimes I sit in my closet and secretly loathe it. Why? Why would an advocate of fashion have ill feelings for the trends?

For one, fashion trends, though cool and refreshing, can sometimes be overwhelming to a nauseating point. My deep concern lies for those people who aren’t too keen on fashion trends in the first place. You see, the fashionistas are quick to jump on the latest trends. That’s all cool. But for those who aren’t too eager, these changes inundate their lives and forces them to surrender. As you may have heard people say things like, “Those jeans are so last season!” or “Get a tattoo choker, they’re all the rage!”. There is nothing wrong with that actually. Except that the trends become a massive wave of conformity to belong, to be one with the latest, the coolest or at least not the odd one out.

What this does is, it kinda kills the whole meaning of fashion which is – a beautiful form of self expression. Style is a very individualistic tool. A medium to talk without having spoken a word. An expression of ideas and individuality. It’s the best thing I’ve ever had and I love it. Are my dress colours too red today? Maybe I’m feeling fierce. Does the monochrome tone look outdated? I don’t know but everything in nature is immersed in duality, so why not.

But with fashion trends, the beautiful philosophy of individualism and expression is limited only to clothes and accessories. When a thousand people post Stan Smiths with skirts, you know the weird ones are missing out somewhere. This post is for the weird ones. Or rather a shoutout for you to be weird and be different. Dress to represent yourself. It’s the only way out.

“Great things are not accomplished by those who yield to trends and fads and popular opinion.”

Dip your feet into the trends. Don’t soak your souls with every changing season. Be who you are. Be weird. That’s how trends are made. Make them and leave it by the door. Go be weird again.
