Find out which body type you are and dress for it. June 22, 2017 – Posted in: Fashion, How to, Lifestyle – Tags: , ,

Let’s get one thing out of the way: There is no perfect body as there is no perfect body type or shape. Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, each beautiful in their own way. One should not idolize the media driven ideal body (whatever that might be) because an ideal body does not exist.

Let’s get another thing out of the way: Fashion trends (any trend), as exciting and fresh as they may sound is not for everybody, and that’s okay.

We’ve talked about how you should not blindly follow trends and we’re here to remind you again that your personal style is way above trends which are short-lived anyway.

Instead of focussing on trends and the perfect body, instead of blindly following your style icons and trying to replicate that in your outfit, knowing your own body type can do wonders for you- sartorially and mentally. Not only does knowing your body type make it easier for you to know what kind of clothes compliment you best, it also helps you embrace your body as you’ll be working for your silhouette…which means you’ll be more comfortable and confident – the two tools we need to get through the day!

There are four common body types: Apple, pear, ruler, hourglass. I know comparing your body to a fruit or a geometric tool sounds ridiculous but just for the sake of easy comprehension, let’s not take the name too seriously. Cool?

How to know what body type you are:

apple body type

Your shoulders are wider than your hips. This body type is also referred to as the Inverted triangle.

Things that look amazing on you:

Clothes that highlight your waist. For eg: fitted blazers, peplums, wrap tops and dresses etc. These items cinch your waist and flare out a little towards your hip flattering your figure in all the right aways

Also, mini skirts, sleek pencil skirts to highlight that already fab pair of slender legs.

pear body type

Your hips are wider than your shoulders. Your upper body is comparatively smaller compared to your lower.

Things that look amazing on you:

Fit and flare dresses. A-line skirts, midi skirts. Crop and ruffled tops. Wide legged trousers and flares compliment your body type.

ruler body type

If your shoulders, bust, waist and hips are almost the same size, then you have a straight body type.

Things that look amazing on you:

Clothes with structure and detail. Skirts with volume and ruffles, layered pieces. Off shoulder tops and top with statement sleeves flatter your body type the most.

Your hips and shoulders are around the same size with a comparatively smaller waist.

Things that look amazing on you:

Deep V-necks, Wrap-tops and dresses with minimal structure.

And that’s it! Hope this helps you find your body type. Always remember that there are no rules when it comes to style, you can wear whatever you want if you wear it with confidence…but having a few style tricks that always work for you comes in handy at times. Now go out there and be your fabulous self!
